Newson Clinic’s approach to hormone treatment

Evidence-based hormone treatments, tailored to you

At Newson Clinic, we specialise in women’s hormone health, including perimenopause, menopause, PMS, PMDD, PCOS/PMOS and postnatal depression, which are all conditions associated with hormonal changes.

Hormonal changes can affect every woman differently with symptoms, hormone levels and response to treatment varying significantly from person to person. This is why there should never be a one-size-fits-all approach to hormone treatments.

Our clinicians provide evidence-based, personalised hormone treatments designed to improve symptoms, support future health and help women feel more like themselves again.

We are proud to be the largest provider of women’s hormone health services in the United Kingdom and the leading provider of published research globally into this area of women’s health.

The hormone treatments we prescribe

At Newson Clinic, we prescribe bioidentical (body identical) hormone treatments as opposed to the older, synthetic types of hormone treatments which are structurally different and are associated with risks and side effects.

Bioidentical hormone treatments are chemically identical to the hormones naturally produced by the body (estradiol, progesterone and testosterone). They are prescribed to improve hormone related symptoms and also to improve future health. They are prescribed at different doses and types. Some women need one hormone where as other women need all three.

Estradiol

Estradiol is the main, most beneficial form of estrogen used in hormone treatment.

At Newson Clinic, estradiol is usually prescribed through your skin using gels, patches or sprays. Some women need different doses than other women to achieve optimal hormone levels and symptom improvement, which is why blood tests are often recommended to help guide treatment1–4.

Progesterone

Progesterone has beneficial effects on every cell in the body and is not just needed for your womb.

We usually prescribe bioidentical progesterone treatment, including micronised progesterone as an oral capsule and progesterone pessaries and suppositories, and a cream, with dose and formulation tailored to the individual.

Testosterone

Testosterone is an important hormone for women and levels often decline with age, with many women experiencing a reduction in their thirties.

In addition to improving libido, testosterone treatment can also improve symptoms such as mood, motivation, energy, concentration and overall wellbeing5-9.

At Newson Clinic, testosterone is prescribed using bioidentical transdermal gels or creams.

Why hormone treatments should always be individualised

Women absorb and respond to hormone treatments differently, even when using the same type or dose of hormone treatment. Some women require different doses than other women to achieve optimal hormone levels in their body to both improve symptoms and also to improve future health.

Our Newson Clinic research found that some women using the highest licensed dose of transdermal estradiol still had low hormone levels and ongoing symptoms10.

That’s why hormone treatments at Newson Clinic are guided by:

Our aim is to restore hormones to levels normally seen in your body to improve both quality of life and long-term health.
