Why follow-up appointments are an essential part of your treatment
Your steps to a happier, healthier you

Here at Newson Clinic, we understand that hormonal health in women encompasses the balance and function of various hormones, particularly oestrogen and progesterone, which influence reproductive health, mood, metabolism, and overall well-being. Fluctuations and imbalances can lead to a range of symptoms and affect various life stages, including menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause. We have been providing support and advice to our patients using evidence-based research to enrich their lives at every stage.

If you've recently had your first appointment and have been taking your hormone treatment for a little while now, you may be wondering what happens next.

For some women, symptoms improve quickly. Others notice gradual changes or still have symptoms they'd like to improve. This is completely normal – and why hormone treatment should never be one-size-fits all.

Individualised care means reviewing your treatment over time with your clinician and making optimisations as your symptoms, health and priorities change.

In fact, 89% of Newson Clinic patients reported an improvement in their symptoms within around three months of starting treatment.* Regular reviews help ensure your treatment continues to work for you.

Here are five reasons why follow-up appointments are such an important part of your treatment.

1. Your symptoms can change over time

Hormonal symptoms can evolve - your treatment should evolve with them.

As hormone levels fluctuate and decline, your symptoms and treatment needs may change. A follow-up appointment gives you the opportunity to talk through what's improved, what's still affecting you and whether your treatment continues to meet your needs.

Many women also develop new priorities over time. What mattered most at your first appointment may not be the same a few months later, so regular reviews help ensure your treatment reflects both your symptoms and your wider health.

2. Your treatment may need optimising

Around 50% of Newson Clinic patients are already using hormone treatments when they attend their first appointment but don’t feel their symptoms are improving enough.

Your clinician may recommend adjustments to your treatment based on your symptoms, response to treatment, side effects and, where appropriate, blood test results.

This might include changing your dose, discussing testosterone, changing the formulation or method of delivery, or reviewing when and how treatment is used.

3. Everyone absorbs hormone treatment differently

The same treatment doesn’t work in exactly the same way for everyone.

Absorption can vary depending on the treatment used, how and where it is applied, other medications and individual factors. If symptoms persist, your treatment may need reviewing to make sure it is working effectively for you.

4. Your symptoms matter just as much as your results

Blood tests can sometimes provide additional insights to help guide treatment, but they're only one part of the picture.

Your clinician may recommend blood tests to review and monitor treatment, guide dose adjustments or investigate whether another condition could be contributing to your symptoms.

The results are always considered alongside how you're feeling, your medical history, current treatment and response over time.

Because ultimately, treatment should reflect how you feel physically and mentally, not simply a number on a blood test.

5. Your follow-up helps improve care for women everywhere

At Newson Clinic, follow-up appointments are part of a wider approach to improving women’s hormone health.

While your appointment focuses on reviewing your symptoms and treatment, work extends beyond the clinic through our dedicated research team, education and outreach designed to improve understanding and access to evidence-based information.

Your follow-up could make all the difference

Hormone treatment isn't about taking a one-size-fits-all standard dose or following a fixed plan. It's about finding the treatment that works best for you.

A follow-up appointment gives you time to discuss what's changed, ask questions, review your treatment and ensure it continues to support both your symptoms and your long-term health.
